About the ACCP

Who We Are

The Australian Council for Clinical Physiologists (ACCP) is the peak body in Australia for credentialing suitably qualified and experienced Clinical Physiologists in the following disciplines:

  • Cardiac

  • Neurophysiology

  • Respiratory

  • Sleep

The ACCP has established an accreditation process compromised of standards for practising Clinical Physiologists which verify qualifications and experience. Key to the accreditation process is the protection of the general public through the accountability that accreditation affords, within each discipline’s scope of practice.

The ACCP ensures the healthcare provided by our Accredited Clinical Physiologists (ACP) is of high quality and based on safety by ensuring that they:

Meet minimum standards of entry,

Adhere to our Code of Ethics,

✅Maintain a minimum level of continuing professional development, and

Will be subject to a complaints process (currently in development).

The Clinical Physiology profession in Australia is self-regulated; whereby there is no underpinning statute enacted by government that mandates a regulator to license members or practicing clinicians of the profession or occupation. Instead, practitioners have joined together to establish an association with a constitution, bylaws and rules for its members. The ACCP’s accreditation process is largely aligned with the Membership Standards established by the National Alliance of Self-Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP). The NASRHP Standards are closely aligned with those set by the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS).

Why Accreditation Matters

Accreditation with the ACCP enhances professional credibility and career prospects by:

Recognising adherence to high standards of excellence

Providing advocacy to represent registrants in healthcare policy discussions

Fostering a supportive community for collaboration and networking

Ensuring accountability and continuous professional improvement
